Sirappu Maruthuvam

In Sirappu Maruthuvam OPD and IPD students are taught and trained to diagnose Musculoskeletal disorders, chronic neurological disorders and fractures on siddha as well as modern aspect (Integrated investigation) and treat all kinds of diseases occurs in old age in siddha aspect. Students are exposed to get hands on training in diagnosis and management of above mentioned conditions.

Certain special therapies specific to siddha system of medicine is also practiced for required cases in our OPD & IPD. These Procedures  are as important as the internal medicines in the management of health and diseases in siddha system of medicine.

Special therapy includes,

  1. Pura Maruthuvam

  2. Varmam

  3. Yogam

Pura Maruthuvams (External Therapies) are given like Thokkanam (Physical Manipulation Therapy), Ottradam (Fomentation) - Particular kizhis for specific diseases. Patru (Poultice), Poochu (Anointing), Pugai (fumigation). Kattu (Bandages) Nasiyam (Nasal drops), Vethu (Steam application), Kombu Kattal (Bone setting), Ennai kattu (Oil pooling), Podi thimirthal (Powder massage).

Special varmam therapies are given to the following conditions sagana vaatham (Cervical spondylosis) Azhal keel vaayu (Osteo Arthritis), Thandagavaatham (Lumbar spondylosis), Vatha sthambam (Sciatica), Kumba vaatham (Frozen shoulder), Nervous disorders and psychiatric disorders.

In our department patients are taught several yogasanas practice related to their disease conditions.

In OPD & IPD regular clinics are given by doctors of the Sirappu Maruthuvam department. Internees are presenting weekly seminars in the academic and Research aspect. SPM faculty members and internees are conducting bfree medical camp periodically.
